Dama Vance, APRNP

Dama Vance is a native of West Virginia and was raised in Beckley, WV. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Virginia University in 1989. After working for 11 years, she desired to be able to do more for her patients and returned to graduate school to become a Nurse Practitioner and earn her Master of Science in Nursing from Shenandoah University in 2002. She was presented with the Dean’s Excellence Award at graduation, which is given to one student who exhibited not only outstanding academic work but who went above and beyond to help other students as well as volunteering whenever needed.

After graduation she worked in Family Practice/Dermatology full time for one year before taking the leap into academia. She taught nursing in at Southern WV Community and Technical College Associate Nursing Program in partnership with Eastern WV Community and Technical College as her full-time position while still working part-time in Family Practice/ Dermatology. After 3 years of teaching, she returned to full time clinical practice in Dermatology in Martinsburg and has been happily practicing Dermatology in the Martinsburg area for over 11 years with a total of 16+ years of Dermatology experience. She has also provided instruction and supervision to nurse practitioner students, medical students, and medical residents. Dama is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is licensed in West Virginia. She lives in Wardensville, West Virginia with her husband. She has 2 children and 3 grandchildren.

Sarah R. Byrd CNRP

Sarah Byrd is a Berkeley Springs native. She attended Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA, where she graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in both Biology & Kinesiology and Nursing. Prior to graduating, she was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. As a registered nurse, she worked at Meritus Medical Center Wound Center and Meritus Medical Center Emergency Department. During her career as a registered nurse, she also cared for patients in the peri-operative setting, assessing and treating patients as they recover from various surgeries. In addition to being a registered nurse, she was a mentor and preceptor to nursing and paramedic students. While continuing to work for Meritus Medical Center, she pursued a career as a Family Nurse Practitioner with Pennsylvania State University, where she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Sarah realized her passion in dermatology while completing clinical training in the field with Dr. Hurst and joined our team at the Center for Dermatology in 2016.

Rich Sutherland

Rich Sutherland, is a native to Berkeley County, born and raised in Martinsburg and a 1994 graduate of Martinsburg High School. Rich received a BS in psychology from Lindsey Wilson College in 2000. In 2018 Rich advance his education with a BSN from Shenandoah University where he graduated with honors and was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society. Following completion, Rich then completed a MSN with FNP specialty from South University in Savannah Georgia. During his pursuit of both his BSN and MSN, a span of four years Rich spent numerous hours shadowing and learning from Dr. Hurst where he discovered a passion for dermatology. His time with Dr. Hurst not only cultivated his passion for the field but afforded Rich the opportunity to advance his dermatological skill set clinically under the tutelage of Dr. Hurst.
